Back To Basics With The Sneaker!

Ever since Isabel Marant introduced her iconic wedge sneakers and they became an essential in every girl’s closet, brands have been trying to create their own version of these. Of course, ask any girl and she’ll say she loves wearing stilettos but there comes a time where we just want to walk around the city without having to worry about being uncomfortable in our shoes.. enter: sneakers! It’s the perfect solution to our problems. For those who want to add a little extra centimetres to their height, there have been numerous brands following Marant’s steps and making wedge sneakers and for those who just want cool, laid back sneakers there are also plenty to choose from.

Nike has relaunched a more hip and youthful version of their 1985 Dunk Sky wedge sneakers. They offer the model in several patterns and colours.


Nike Flyknits have been widely demanded ever since they hit stores last year, woven using the best technology in order to provide a lightweight sneaker and with a cushion to make each step smoother. Finally, the shoe that fits like a sock and for this upcoming summer they have introduced a new range of bright colours.

Givenchy’s S/S 2013 collection presents a mix of street style with high fashion elements in their footwear; whether it be star shaped studs, plant patterns or simple black high tops they all make a statement. They may well be one of Tisci’s most famous pieces since he became creative director.


The Balenciaga Cotes High 2013 follow last year’s red high tops model in two new colours: white and blue. The design plays with different textures using leather and a touch of suede to top it off.


New Balance looks back to revive the 80’s with the new 574 is inspired by grubby industrial lofts. Although not as lively as some of the previous sneakers, they have a more “edgy” style.


So why have sneakers become the new must have item? Well probably because trend setters like Phoebe Philo, creative director of Céline, have attended fashion weeks wearing them. Considering all the rushing and running around during these days we can totally understand her decision to opt for comfort rather than chic.. And to our surprise this IS the new chic. At last, the motto “beauty is pain” has been challenged by this new awesome style!
